I like to imagine that Timber finally officially gains independence after like, 30 years - though it's probably been easier when Deling's not in charge, so maybe it's just on-paper that it's not independent - and Squall reads the headline, and is like "okay, bye Rinoa, it's been a good thirty years". And then he comes back, because he was just joking.
